Henry Rollins.
Passion. So much passion. And rage. It's very easy for bands to stand there and say "we hate Dubya" Cheers from the crowd. They feel great. But when someone like Henry Rollins stands there and tells you of the soldiers he met when he went to Iraq (of the soldier who had his arm blown off, picked it up, and went to a doctor saying "i think i'm hurt") it's so much more believable. Then you can understand his hatred for the American Government. If the people of the world had a small amount of the anger and drive this man had we wouldn't be in this position. Print Now Available! thank you
spent the entire set sitting on the security barriers about 5 metres from him. Had to keep reminding myself to take photos... -- Beards not bombs. I love love love love LOVE Rollins.
I'm still not quite sure why i missed him on his last tour As for the pic, it's a fucking good pose, good moment to take the shot - but it's a right shame about the light coming down on him from the left. Way too intense and burns out his right. Other than that, focus and DoF are spot-on -- Knowledge is power, Open your mind. .One~Hope~One~Quest. (Vegan ~Blurry~Edge~) DA Vegans - ~vegans xnoizex - ~xnoizex He was so so good
The lights were annoying. There was no backlight, so there was a huge contrast between the lit and unlit. Still managed to get a few acceptable shots though. Thanks for the comments You're an awesome music photographer so it's much appreciated. -- Beards not bombs. this man is simply amazing. did he play(as in music) or was it more of a stand-up/speech thing? he came to my school last fall and spoke and it was simply amazing. It was so cool to see the man who made such great great music speak so intelligently about the current world. Black Flag is great and everything, but the messages were pretty simple as far as intellectual depth goes. That however, was perfect for them, but it was just cool to see that behind that music was such a freakin' genious. I think that as a rule, every contemporary "punk"(and i use that word very hesitatingly) band member be locked in a room for at least 20 minutes with him. Anyways, great shot.
-- "In order to live, in order to justify living, we can't just fill the space of our lives with empty amusement, with pointless light and sound and words- we're going to have to try harder now." - Al Burian yeah it was his spoken word act.
Amazing. By far the best act all weekend, although i am quite biased, the man is a legend, not only in punk, but in alternative music. The set was funny, intelligent and thought provoking. Normally such a "lecture" would be dull and boring, but Rollins managed to keep the entire crowd laughing for the duration. The tent was full as well. When i got there before he came on it was getting busy. My friend turned up a few minutes into the talk and it was 10-15 deep outside the tent. Must've been about 2000 people watching and i think that was a conservative estimate. Just goes to show his influence and respect afforded to him. Glad you like the shot. -- Beards not bombs. Great moment!
A bit of a shame that the lighting was extremely harsh and tricky, the top of his head and his left arm are completely washed out in highlights but a f-stop or two lower would probably have made the rest of the face too dark, so I'm at a loss how to improve this shot (except for stopping down and using fill-in flash). I think a tighter crop would have been more dramatic. -- Ozzy -- Prints for Sale The lighting for most of the other shots was so much better, much more balanced. It's a shame, because as you've said exposing for one would lose the other. The other option would be to underexpose the highlights by a few stops and then PS it back up, but i prefer exposing correctly at the time.
Cropping seems to be something I've neglected as of late. I've had quite a few comments about cropping so i think it's about time i started doing it again! Thanks a lot for the comment, much appreciated -- Beards not bombs. I really am beginning to love your work, Adam. Its usually very rare i find myself enjoying every piece of work from a photographer but your photographs really do ensnare me.
Fantastic photograph and a great gallery in general. Oh, and youre a fellow Youth Crew member which is even more rad. -- Fin. |
